| Please let me preface this...I would never put a photo of this poor soul up here, if his face was recognizable...however, as you can see... it is not... so, here goes. Under the twin headings..."Just when I thought I'd seen EVERYTHING!" (and here, you almost can) and "Distracted Driving". Yesterday I was driving in my pick-up. I heard a screech and saw ahead of me by about 3 car-lengths a rider dumping his bike, so as not to hit the car in front of him. It went down pretty violently. Then, I saw to the right of me on the sidewalk, what might have been the reason for the event. I pulled over to take a photo for the biker...as at the time, I thought that he had actually HIT the car ahead of him and he might need proof of why he was momentarily distracted. Who wouldn't be? I sure was! The biker was okay, the bike was almost okay, but the distraction was not okay. He was frozen in this position as though catatonic. Like an oddly posed live model for a don't do drugs and alcohol campaign. He did not budge for many minutes. He was still like that when the police (three cars) arrived only a minute later. They had obviously already been called before the accident had taken place. I knew one of them... They arranged an ambulance ride to observation point for Mr. Distraction. Probably one reason why there is that "intoxicated in public" law. I have to wonder if he was trying to display that low ride, crotch to the knees "look", saggin, and it backfired (oo! no pun intended) As the movie title excaimed...White Men Can't Jump! Evidently they are not very good at this either. I found out that I actually knew the biker. We were ham radio buddies many years back until mine went on the fritz. We didn't know what each other looked like so it is quite amazing that the rider put 2 and 2 together when he found out that I drove a truck and my name was Annie. Most of the time we only used call signs. Later on yesterday, I got to thinking. Mr. Distraction, showing us his ham...lead to us connecting and finding out that we were fellow "Hams". I will be praying for Mr. Distraction. My heart goes out to him and others like him. We all have our addictions, and as shared here, they are usually also not good for those around them! By the way, this happened right in front of the DMV. See next photo... |
